The preaching ministry of West Greenway Bible Church seeks to honor God by living out the vision, mission, and values of our church in everything we do. We strive to do this in the following ways.

The vision of West Greenway Bible Church is to be a community of believers in Christ where people in all stages of life can find hope in Christ, seek healing from past and present hurts, and pursue authentic holiness in grace.

The vision of the preaching ministry of West Greenway Bible Church is to engage the hearts and minds of those who attend gathered worship at WG to find hope, healing, and holiness by accurately and fully knowing, understanding and applying God’s Word to their lives.

West Greenway Bible Church exists to make followers of Jesus Christ in all stages of life who live out the Great Commission. (Matthew 28:16-20)

The preaching ministry of West Greenway Bible Church facilitates the mission of the church by presenting the requirements of eternal life clearly and continually (John 3:16; 20:31; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8) and teaching Christians to obey all that Christ has commanded us. (Matthew 26:20)

The following values held by West Greenway Bible Church are particularly applicable and important to the preaching ministry.
We value God’s Word, not merely for the sake of gaining knowledge but to transform our lives through the application of biblical truth (Ezra 7:10; Neh 8:8; Acts 17:11; Col 3:16; 1 Tim 4:12-16; 2 Tim 2:15; 3:16; 4:2; Jas 1:21-22).

i.      Presenting biblical truth in creative and life-transforming ways is the center of what the preaching ministry seeks to accomplish.

ii.      We value the Word of God and the Spirit of God as transformative agents in our lives over emotional manipulation or rhetorical force.

We value authenticity and transparency in our lives.  We seek to provide an environment where people can be themselves, with all of their struggles and trials, without having to “put on a happy face” for church. (Matt 5:37; Rom 12:15; 1 Thess 5:11)  We seek this while simultaneously seeking a God-honoring view of ourselves and our lives that recognizes that He is bigger than our problems. (Rom 12:1-2)

i.      We value preaching the Word of God in authentic and transparent ways that do not minimize the struggles or complexities of modern life. We value recognizing that application of biblical truth is not always simple or easy while also recognizing that it is critically important.

ii.      We value preaching that encourages people to grasp their identity in Christ and walk by the Spirit rather than preaching that moralizes or condemns.

We value biblical discipleship and personal commitment to reflect the character of God in our lives. We will challenge ourselves to abide in Christ (John 15:4-5; 1 John 2:28), persevere in faith (1 Cor 9:24-27; Heb 12:1-3), and grow to maturity (Rom 8:29; Eph 4:11-16; Col 1:28) in our fellowship with God and in the sacrificial stewardship of our time, talents, treasure, and relationships (Luke 19:11-27; 1 Cor 4:1-5; 2 Cor 5:10).

i.      We value calling God’s people to obedience to Christ as a central facet of preaching. (Luke 6:46)

ii.      We value preaching that engages people’s hearts and minds to radical, life-transforming commitment to reflect Christ’s character.

We value the maxim: “In essentials, unity, in non-essentials, liberty, in all things, charity.”  Every believer is free in Christ (2 Cor 3:17), but we must be careful not to use our freedom to indulge ourselves (Gal 5:13; 1 Pet 2:16). As followers of Christ, we are commanded to be holy in all our behavior (1 Pet 1:14-16) and we value allowing freedom in areas of conscience while pursuing holiness together.

i.      We value preaching truth from the pulpit but understand that not every doctrine is equally clear.

ii.      Where the Scriptures speak clearly we value speaking clearly; where the Scriptures allow some room for differences in interpretation and application we value allowing for those differences.

iii.      We value standing firm on the four pillars of historic, orthodox Christianity, namely (1) the inspiration, inerrancy, and sufficiency of Scripture; (2) the Trinity; (3) the full humanity and full divinity of Jesus; (4) salvation by faith alone in Christ alone.

iv.      We value preaching truth as we understand it in all areas and showing grace and understanding to others in more debatable topics and passages.

Implementation: In order to live out the vision, mission, and values of both the preaching ministry and the church in general, the preaching ministry of WG will:

  1. Preach expository sermons every Sunday morning. Whether preaching a passage of Scripture or a topical message, every message at WG will expose the intent of the biblical authors.
  2. Provide real-world application in each message for people in all walks of life. We will search for appropriate ways that people in different life situations can apply the lesson of the sermon and help people bring those into their individual contexts. The goal of our preaching is not just imparting information but rather facilitating the Spirit’s work to transform lives.
  3. Preach in a relatable and approachable manner to meet people where they are. We will focus more on helping people understand Scripture and the God of Scripture than on being profound or smithing words.
